Çölde deneysel bir yapı: Monument House

Monument House, Josh Schweitzer tarafından 1989-1990 yıllarında tasarlanıyor ve Joshua Tree Ulusal Parkı'nın hemen dışında konumlanıyor. Yapı, üç ayrı hacimden oluşan kübik formuyla çevredeki monzogranit kayalıklarla görsel bir uyum yakalıyor. Her hacim, bölgedeki kayalar, bitki örtüsü ve gökyüzünden ilhamla turuncu, zeytin yeşili ve mavi tonlarda renklendiriliyor.


Trapez biçimli açıklıklar, hem manzarayı çerçeveliyor hem de iç mekânın doğal ışıkla dolmasını sağlıyor. İçeride bir yatak odası, tam donanımlı mutfak, şömineli oturma alanı ve bir banyo yer alıyor. Homestead Modern tarafından kiralanabilir durumda olan yapı, çöl mimarisinde deneysel ve simgesel bir örnek olarak öne çıkıyor.

An experimental structure in the desert: Monument House


Monument House was designed by Josh Schweitzer in 1989-1990 and is located just outside Joshua Tree National Park. The structure, with its cubic form consisting of three separate volumes, blends in visually with the surrounding monzogranite rock formations. Each volume is coloured in shades of orange, olive green, and blue, inspired by the rocks, vegetation, and sky of the region.


Trapezoidal openings frame the landscape while allowing natural light to flood the interior. Inside, there is a bedroom, a fully equipped kitchen, a fireplace-equipped living area, and a bathroom. Available for rent through Homestead Modern, the structure stands out as an experimental and symbolic example of desert architecture.
