Ezber bozan tasarım: Venice House

Venice House, Daly Genik Architects tarafından Los Angeles'ın Venice bölgesinde, iki bağımsız konut biriminin ortak bir avlu etrafında yeniden düzenlenmesiyle tasarlanıyor. Yapıda, geleneksel ana ev–misafir evi ilişkisi tersine çevrilerek, caddeye bakan garaj üzerindeki stüdyo daire ön plana çıkarılıyor ve ana konut parselin arka bölümüne yerleştiriliyor.


1980'lerde inşa edilen mevcut yapı, 2,4 metrelik bir eklemeyle yaklaşık 158 metrekareye genişletiliyor ve yaşam alanı üç yatak odası ve üç banyoya uyarlanıyor. Her iki birimin avluya yönelen cephelerinde kullanılan katlanabilir, delikli metal paneller aracılığıyla gün ışığı filtreleniyor ve mahremiyet sağlanıyor. Garaj dairesi balkon ve çatı terasıyla genişletilirken, yapılarda açılabilir pencereler, gölgelikler ve çatıya yerleştirilen güneş panelleri ile pasif iklimlendirme sağlanıyor. Proje, aynı parsel içinde farklı kullanıcı ihtiyaçlarına yanıt verebilen, geçirgen ve çok katmanlı bir konut düzeni öneriyor.

Venice House, designed by Daly Genik Architects, is being redeveloped in Los Angeles' Venice neighbourhood by rearranging two independent residential units around a shared courtyard. The traditional main house–guest house relationship is reversed, with the studio apartment above the street-facing garage taking centre stage and the main residence being placed at the rear of the plot.


The existing structure, built in the 1980s, is being expanded by approximately 158 square metres with a 2.4-metre extension and adapted to accommodate three bedrooms and three bathrooms. Foldable, perforated metal panels on the courtyard-facing facades of both units filter natural light and ensure privacy. The garage apartment is expanded with a balcony and roof terrace, while the buildings feature openable windows, shading elements, and solar panels on the roof to facilitate passive climate control. The project proposes a permeable and multi-layered residential layout that can accommodate different user needs within the same plot.
