Geçmişle Gelecek Arasında İnşa Edilen Bir Ağ; Spider Hollow

Kyoto'nun tarihi dokusunu barındıran dar sokaklarından birinde, 107 yıllık geleneksel bir machiya, Christopher Flechtner ve Junko Uchiyama'nın ellerinde "Spider Hollow" adıyla yeniden hayat buluyor. Bu isim, evin lavabosunda bulunan kurumuş bir örümcekten ilham alıyor ve projenin temel felsefesini yansıtıyor: her şeyin birbirine bağlı olduğu bir yaşam alanı oluşturmak.


Flechtner ve Uchiyama, bu eski Kyoto evini sadece restore etmekle kalmıyor, aynı zamanda onu bir yaşam ve üretim alanına dönüştürüyor. Evin ahşap iskeleti, örümcek ağının karmaşık yapısını andıracak şekilde yeniden düzenleniyor; her bir kiriş ve bağlantı noktası, mekânın işlevsel ve estetik bütünlüğünü sağlamak üzere tasarlanıyor. Bu yaklaşım, evin sadece fiziksel değil, aynı zamanda zihinsel bir ağ gibi işlemesini sağlıyor.


"Spider Hollow", geleneksel Japon mimarisinin sadeliğini ve doğayla uyumunu korurken, modern yaşamın ihtiyaçlarına da cevap veriyor. Mekânın her köşesi, sakinlerinin günlük yaşamlarını destekleyecek şekilde düşünülerek tasarlanıyor. Bu ev, geçmişin izlerini taşıyan bir yapının, çağdaş bir yaşam alanına dönüşümünün güzel bir örneği olarak karşımıza çıkıyor.

In one of Kyoto's historic narrow streets, a 107-year-old traditional machiya comes to life again in the hands of Christopher Flechtner and Junko Uchiyama under the name “Spider Hollow". The name is inspired by a dried spider found in the sink of the house and reflects the basic philosophy of the project: to create a living space where everything is connected.


Flechtner and Uchiyama not only restore this old Kyoto house, but also transform it into a living and production space. The timber frame of the house is reorganized to resemble the intricate structure of a spider's web, with each beam and connection point designed to ensure the functional and aesthetic integrity of the space. This approach allows the house to function not only as a physical but also as a mental web.


“Spider Hollow" responds to the needs of modern life while maintaining the simplicity and harmony with nature of traditional Japanese architecture. Every corner of the space is thoughtfully designed to support the daily lives of its residents. This house is a beautiful example of the transformation of a building with traces of the past into a contemporary living space.
